ABOUT THE COFFEE:
Nano Challa is a member of the Kata Muduga Union – a group of the leading coffee cooperatives in the West of Ethiopia, mainly centered around Agaro. The name Nano Challa refers to a local mythic tale about a challenge to become King of Jimma, and the coop adopted it to signify their desire to be a strong cooperative.

Nano Challa has done such an amazing job with production and processing over the last decade that the tremendous premiums they were receiving caused their membership to swell to a level that pushed their capacity as far as it could go. This year, they opened a new facility a few miles away with brand new Penagos equipment and dozens of drying beds to accommodate their growing membership. They’re looking forward to continued growth and success, and we’re looking forward to even more—even better—coffee!

ABOUT THE PROCESS:
Washed coffees reflect both the science of growing the perfect coffee bean and the fact that farmers are an integral part of crafting the taste of a coffee bean. 
Farmers deliver hand-picked coffee cherries to the central washing station, where they are processed using an eco-pulper before overnight fermentation of 10-12 hours. Drying takes 10-11 days on raised beds, with first few days under a shade while surface moisture dries away.
